INDIANAPOLIS – UIC’s Kayla Wedl has been named the Horizon League Softball Player of the Year, while Detroit Mercy’s Ashley Mauser earned Pitcher of the Year honors. Youngstown State’s Addy Jarvis picked up Freshman of the Year recognition and Detroit Mercy’s John Conway was selected Coach of the Year. All-League and specialty awards are voted on the League’s head coaches.

Junior shortstop Wedl led the League in #HLSB play in several offensive categories, including batting average (.603), slugging percentage (1.179), on-base percentage (.640), hits (47), and RBIs (38) to earn Player of the Year and First Team All-League recognition. Wedl is the second consecutive UIC player to take home Player of the Year honors, following Lexi Watts in 2018.

Mauser picked up Pitcher of the Year and First Team All-League honors in her senior season with the Titans. Mauser led #HLSB with 11 League wins, posting a 1.99 ERA in League contests with 90 strikeouts and a .197 opponent batting average. Mauser is the first Titan to earn Horizon League Pitcher of the Year.

Jarvis earned Freshman of the Year, All-League Second Team, and All-Freshman Team honors in her first season with the Penguins. The pitcher posted a 3.00 ERA in League play with 100 strikeouts in 72.1 innings of work.

Conway was chosen the Horizon League Coach of the Year, leading the Titans to the second-seed in the #HLSB Championship. Detroit Mercy earned 16 League wins this season, doubling its total from 2018, along with a 27-25 overall record.

Joining Wedl and Mauser on the All-League First Team are student-athletes from seven different institutions. Detroit Mercy’s Courtney Gilbert and Jordan Manno, Green Bay’s Morgan Bihun, IUPUI’s McKenzie Loge, Northern Kentucky’s Ava Lawson, Oakland’s Kelsie Swanson, UIC’s Skylee James and Lexi Watts and Wright State’s Raidyn Johnson all earned First Team honors as position players, with Detroit Mercy’s Liz Murphy earning First Team as a pitcher.

In addition to Jarvis, seven institutions are represented on the All-League Second Team. Cleveland State’s Kelly Hysong, IUPUI’s Mandy Dallas and Delaney Thompson, NKU’s Josie Frazier, Oakland’s Jamie Squires, UIC’s Alyssa Griman and Cassie Kaelber, WSU’s Madison Hartman and Rebekah Lenos, and YSU’s Lexi Zappitelli were selected as position players with NKU’s Taylor Ginther being chosen as a pitcher.
