Butler senior Joe Macdonald, Loyola senior Michael Jarman, Butler freshman Kirsty Legg, and Milwaukee freshman Samia Taylor have been named Horizon League Track and Field Athletes of the Week for the period of Feb. 1-7.

Cleveland State sophomore Mark deSwardt has been named the Horizon League Men’s Swimmer of the Week, while Green Bay sophomore Daniel Pogue has claimed Diver of the Week laurels for the period of Feb. 1-Feb. 7.  

League-leading and #18/15 Butler enters the week with a 4 1/2-game lead over Cleveland State and needs just one victory to clinch at least a share of the regular-season title and no worse than the number-two seed in the postseason tournament, which includes a bye to the semifinals. 

Cleveland State senior Kailey Klein has been named Horizon League Women's Basketball Player of the Week for the period of Feb. 1-7. The selection marks Klein's third weekly honor from the League office this season and the eighth of her career.

Milwaukee junior Danielle Wenger has been named the Horizon League Women’s Swimmer of the Week, while Youngstown State freshman Casey Hill has claimed Women’s Diver of the Week honors for the period of Feb. 1-Feb. 7. 

Sean Phillips, the top assistant coach of the UIC men’s soccer team since 2005, has been selected as the fifth men’s soccer coach in school history, UIC athletic director Jim Schmidt announced on Wednesday, Feb. 3. 

THE HORIZON LEAGUE SPOTLIGHT

Wright State has been picked to win the 2010 Horizon League Baseball Championship in balloting by the conference's seven head coaches. The Raiders received the maximum of 36 points and six first-place votes as coaches were not permitted to vote for their own teams.
