HORIZON LEAGUE TEAM NOTES

Basketball standout Walt Gibler of Loyola and swimming champion Danielle Wenger of Milwaukee have been named the U.S. Army Horizon League Scholar-Athletes of the Month for February.

Now that we are nearly 24 hours removed from the Speedway Horizon League Men's Basketball Championship game, it's time to try to figure out what the NCAA Men's Basketball Committee will do with the class of the Horizon League on Selection Sunday.

Wright State freshman Evan Neuman and Green Bay senior Lauryn Grimando have been named Horizon League Tennis Players of the Week for the period of March 1-7.

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) -- Shelvin Mack scored all 14 of his points in the first half, and Matt Howard had 14 points and nine rebounds to help No. 12 Butler rout second-seeded Wright State 70-45 in the Horizon League title game Tuesday night.

Butler senior Melanie Thornton has been named Horizon League Women's Basketball Player of the Week for the period of March 1-7. The selection marks Thornton's first career weekly honor from League office.

For the third straight season, the championship game of the Speedway Horizon League Men's Basketball Championship will be played at Hinkle Fieldhouse in Indianapolis. The game will be played Tuesday at 9 p.m. ET and be televised live on ESPN.

Tickets remain available for the Speedway Horizon League Men's Basketball Championship game Tuesday night that will feature Butler and Wright State at historic Hinkle Fieldhouse.

Milwaukee sophomore Paul Hoenecke and Wright State senior Alex Kaminsky have been named Horizon League Baseball Players of the Week for the period of March 1-7. Hoenecke earns the first weekly honor in his career, while Kaminsky records his second.

Youngstown State sophomore Haley Thomas has been named the Horizon League Softball Batter of the Week, while Valparaiso sophomore Alex Lagesse has earned Pitcher of the Week honors for the week ending March 7.
