Butler senior Melanie Thornton has been named Player of the Year, which highlights the Horizon League's 2009-10 Women's Basketball All-League Teams and specialty award winners. The Valparaiso pitching staff got the job done in a pair of games Tuesday at the Rebel Spring Games in Orlando, Fla., as four Crusader pitchers combined to allow just one unearned run as Valpo defeated Dayton, 4-1, and Holy Cross, 8-0.

Valparaiso won its opening game on Tuesday afternoon at Chain of Lakes Stadium in Winter Haven, Fla. for the 1,100th victory in school history, defeating Saint Bonaventure 17-13. The Crusaders then dropped the night cap 16-8 against Maine.

Valparaiso's Jordan Rutkowski was named Horizon League Softball Batter of the Week while Cleveland State's Amanda Macenko picks up Pitcher of the Week accolades.
