#MotorCityMadness Three Stars of the Day - March 11

DETROIT- The 2019 Horizon League Basketball Championships resumed in Little Caesars Arena on Monday with all of the top seeds moving on to their championship match on Tuesday. Tonight’s playmakers had the most impact on the outcome of the evening's semifinal matchups.

Frankie Wurtz, Green Bay
The second women’s semifinal of Motor City Madness came down to the wire, but Green Bay was able to defeat Youngstown State 55-53. The Phoenix were led by redshirt junior Wurtz, who scored 13 points, had five assists, and snagged seven rebounds. She started the first half by putting up six points from the floor. Additionally, she had two assists and was able to retrieve four rebounds for Green Bay. Wurtz kept on the gas for the second half and added seven more points for the Phoenix, along with three more rebounds and three more assists. Green Bay will play in the championship on Tuesday against top-seeded Wright State.

Bill Wampler, Wright State
The Raiders won the first men’s semifinal matchup in Little Caesars Arena on Monday evening, defeating Green Bay 66-54. Wampler led Wright State with 18 points, four rebounds and one assist. He dropped a staggering 12 points in the first half, going 4-for-5 from deep and pulling down two rebounds. Wampler put up another six points in the second half. He went 2-for-2 from the free throw line, had two rebounds and one assist. The Raiders continue their campaign in Detroit with the Motor City Madness men’s championship on Tuesday at 7 p.m. ET on ESPN.  

Drew McDonald, Northern Kentucky
Northern Kentucky took down Oakland in a thrilling matchup in Little Caesars Arena. McDonald drained the game winning 3-pointer as time expired to bring the Norse to 64-63 over the Golden Grizzlies. McDonald led his team with 18 points, 11 rebounds, and 5 assists. He started the first half with seven points, four rebounds and four assists. McDonald put down 11 points, seven rebounds and four assists in the second half of the men’s semifinal. The Norse continue Motor City Madness action and move on to men’s championship on Tuesday at 7 p.m. on ESPN.
