#HLSD Championship - Day 1 Results

INDIANAPOLIS — The opening day of the 2019 Horizon League Swimming and Diving Championships concluded Wednesday evening at the IU Natatorium (NAT), with Oakland pulling the lead for both the men’s and women’s teams.

Oakland’s women’s team turned in an exciting first-place finish in the 200 Medley Relay (1:39.63). Cleveland State finished in second, followed by IUPUI in a close third.

Oakland’s men came in on top in the 200 Medley Relay, finishing with a time of 1:27.46. They were followed by Cleveland State (1:28.24) in second, followed by Green Bay in third.

In the second relay of the night, the women’s 800 Free, Oakland’s women soared to an exciting first-place finish with a time of 7:24.33. IUPUI (7:24.69) came in second, followed by Cleveland State (7:24.78) not far behind.


In the men’s 800 Free Relay Oakland consisting of Rudy Aguilar-Fernandez, William Gayne, Benjamin Davis, and Mack Flowers — exhibited a stellar performance, touching at 6:27.72, a new Horizon League Championship record. They were followed by Cleveland State (6:35.05) finishing in second.
 
In the lone diving event of opening day IUPUI’s senior Krisztian Somhegyi took top honors in the men’s 3 Meter with an NCAA qualifying score of 352.40. Oakland senior Joe Smith was runner up, posting a score of 333.45.
