INDIANAPOLIS – During the second week of #HLWBB play, Youngstown State and Wright State remained perfect and are tied atop the standings at 4-0.
#HLWBB NEWS & NOTES
• Two #HLWBB players nearly posted triple-doubles this week. Oakland’s Taylor Jones posted 16 assists, eleven points, and nine rebounds in the Golden Grizzlies’ win over Detroit Mercy on Friday. UIC’s Jada Njeji led the Flames with 18 points, 13 rebounds, and nine blocks against Cleveland State on Saturday.
• Youngstown State’s Alison Smolinski broke the Penguins’ career three-point field goals record during Saturday’s win over IUPUI. Her record-breaking three-point field goal was the 210th of her career and also helped YSU secure Head Coach John Barnes’ 250th career win. Smolinski is second in the NCAA with 57 three-point field goals made this season.
• Cleveland State’s Mariah White averaged a double-double this week for the Vikings with 14.0 points and 11.5 rebounds per game. White also led the League in steals per game this week with 3.5. Teammate Savanna Crockett is 13th nationally with eight double-doubles this season.
• YSU’s Melinda Trimmer currently boasts the top mark in the NCAA in assist-turnover ratio, 4.93. Trimmer leads #HLWBB with 74 assists this season, compared to 15 turnovers in 15 games this season.
• IUPUI’s Macee Williams leads the League in scoring this season, posting 18.7 points per game in 15 contests.
• Milwaukee’s Ryaen Johnson leads #HLWBB with 2.1 blocked shots per game this season. Johnson has blocked 30 shots in 14 games.
• Wright State utilized a balanced attack in its wins over Green Bay and Milwaukee this week as three players averaged double-figures in scoring. Mackenzie Taylor led the Raiders with 16.0 points per game followed by 13.0 from Michal Miller, and 10.0 from freshman Angel Baker. Two other Raiders (Symone Simmons and Tyler Frierson) ranked in the top-ten in rebounding for the week.
• Youngstown State is the ninth best team in the country in field-goal percentage defense. The Penguins are only allowing opponents to convert on 33.3 percent of their shot attempts. YSU ranks first in the League in scoring defense, allowing 53.5 points per game, which is 11th in the nation.
• Wright State ranks fourth nationally in total rebounds, grabbing 692 this season. WSU is 20th nationally with 16 offensive rebounds per game. The Raiders are also 12th in the country with just 12.8 turnovers per game.
