Nike #HLWBB Players of the Week (January 28)

INDIANAPOLIS – Youngstown State junior Mary Dunn led the Horizon League in both scoring and field goal percentage this week, leading the Penguins to wins over Northern Kentucky and Cleveland State. Dunn is the #HLWBB Nike® Player of the Week for the second time this season. Milwaukee freshman Megan Walstad averaged 13.5 points, shooting 60 percent from the field for the Panthers this week. Walstad is the #HLWBB Nike® Freshman of the Week for the third time.

Dunn averaged 22.5 points, 9.0 rebounds and 2.5 blocks while shooting 72 percent from the field in a pair of Penguins victories. The junior had her third double-double of the season with 23 points and 11 rebounds in Monday's come-from-behind win over NKU. Dunn had 10 points and six rebounds in the fourth period alone as YSU outscored the Norse 31-12 in the final 10 minutes. She was 8-of-11 from the field overall and 7-of-7 from the free-throw line. Dunn’s five blocks against NKU were the most by a Penguin in a game since March 2015.The forward was 10-for-14 from the field, scored 22 points and had seven rebounds in just 18 minutes in Saturday's victory over Cleveland State.

Megan Walstad continued to make her case as one of the top freshman in the Horizon League last week. The newcomer scored a career-high 21 points to go with four rebounds and a pair of steals, blocks and assists against IUPUI. She was big in the clutch too, hitting a shot with 3.3 left in regulation to send Thursday's game into overtime and scoring the first basket in the extra period. Walstad followed that up with six points, six rebounds and four assists in just 21 minutes of a lopsided win on Saturday. The Apple Valley, Minn., native upped her scoring average to 11.6 points/game - the highest mark in the Horizon League for a freshman - and her 56.7 shooting percentage ranks second in conference and 28th nationally.
