INDIANAPOLIS – The first week of #HLMBB play came to a close on Sunday as Northern Kentucky, Oakland and Detroit Mercy finished 2-0 for the opening weekend.

Oakland 76, Youngstown State 74
The Golden Grizzlies improved to 2-0 in #HLMBB play on Sunday over Youngstown State, 76-74, as Karmari Newman hit the game-winning 3-pointer with 22 seconds left in regulation and Brad Brechting scored a career high 19 points on 7-of-9 shooting from the floor. YSU was led by Darius Quisenberry with 21 points and Devin Morgan added 15 points with seven assists. The win marks the second time Oakland has started 2-0 in Horizon League play since joining the League in 2013-14.
Wright State 72, IUPUI 64
Wright State picked up its first win in #HLMBB play on Sunday as Bill Wampler and Cole Gentry each poured in over 20 points to secure a 72-64 win at home over IUPUI. The Jags had 17 points and seven rebounds from Camron Justice in the loss as Evan Hall added 13 points and Ahmed Ismail collected 10. WSU held IUPUI to under 20 percent shooting from long range in the win.
Northern Kentucky 73, UIC 58
Northern Kentucky made it 10-0 at BB&T Arena this season with a 73-58 win over UIC at home on Sunday. Drew McDonald registered his eighth double-double of the season with 19 points and 20 rebounds, becoming the first HL player since Norris Cole in 2011 to tally 20 or more boards in a game, while Jalen Tate recorded a game-high 25 points. UIC's leading scorer was Marcus Ottey with 18 points on 8-of-12 shooting and Jacob Wiley added 12 points and seven rebounds.
Detroit Mercy 73, Cleveland State 61
Detroit Mercy closed out Week 1 of #HLMBB play with another road win, this time at Cleveland State, 73-61. Antoine Davis led all scorers with 17 points for the Titans as Josh McFolley and Derrien King each had 15 points. CSU has four players in double figures led by Jaalam Hill with 13 points. The Titans won their first two League games on the road for the first time since 1998-99.

MOTOR CITY MADNESS
The 2019 Little Caesars Horizon League Basketball Championships will begin March 5-6 and will culminate with the semifinal and championship games on March 11-12 at Detroit’s Little Caesars Arena. The 2019 men’s and women’s championship games will take place on Tuesday, March 12 with the men playing at 7 p.m. ET on ESPN or ESPN2 and the women starting at noon ET on ESPNU. Tickets for the semifinals and championship go on-sale on February 1. Once quarterfinal games conclude on March 5 and 6, fan section information for participating teams will be announced.
