Nike #HLMBB Players of the Week (December 23)
INDIANAPOLIS – Northern Kentucky’s Drew McDonald registered a double-double in his final non-conference game to be named Nike® #HLMBB Player of the Week, while Oakland’s Braden Norris made nine 3-pointers and shot almost 70 percent from long range to earn Nike® #HLMBB Freshman of the Week as the Horizon League announced its men’s basketball weekly honors on Sunday.
#HLMBB Player of the Week
Drew McDonald | Northern Kentucky | Senior | Forward | Cold Spring, Ky.
McDonald picked up his third #HLMBB Player of the Week honor of the season as he led Northern Kentucky to a second-straight win over a Mid-American Conference opponent in the team’s last two games with 15 points and 12 boards against Northern Illinois. McDonald recorded his sixth double-double in the win, ranking 13th in the nation this season, and the 40th of his career. The senior forward is now averaging 18.3 points and 9.5 rebounds per game, which ranks fourth and first in the league, respectively, heading into League play on Friday.
#HLMBB Freshman of the Week
Braden Norris | Oakland | Freshman | Guard | Hilliard, Ohio
Norris averaged 15.5 points per game and shot 69 percent from beyond the arc (9-13) and 2.5 assists last week against two Power 5 opponents. At Georgia, he scored 13 points, including a trio of 3-pointers, and grabbed a career-high five rebounds. On Friday at No. 8 Michigan State, he hit went 6-of-7 behind the arc, setting a career-high in 3-pointers made and matching a career best with 18 points. Norris is now shooting 64 percent (32-50) from 3-point range on the season to lead the HL with League play starting next week.
