INDIANAPOLIS – The month of December is in full swing as we are just over two weeks away from the start of the #HLMBB season.
#HLMBB NEWS & NOTES
• Cleveland State played one of its best games of the season last week as the Vikings set a school record hitting 15 3-pointers in the 82-64 win over Bowling Green. Tyree Appleby led the way going 7-of-9 from long range as CSU shot 50 percent from behind the arc. The Vikings also did it on the defensive end holding the Falcons to under 33 percent shooting from the floor.
• UIC picked up its fourth win of the season at home against Illinois State as Tarkus Ferguson recorded the program’s second triple-double and Jordan Blount netted a career-high 27 points for a 94-75 victory.
• Northern Kentucky and UIC are both receiving votes in the College Insider Mid-Major top-25 poll.
• Detroit Mercy’s Antoine Davis is second in the country in scoring at 27.4 points per game as he leads all of Division I with 54 total 3-pointers and 5.4 triples per contest. Oakland’s Xavier Hill-Mais is also top-10 in the country in scoring at 24.5 points. Hill-Mais and Davis are ranked No. 2 and 3, respectively, in total field-goals made in the country.
• Youngstown State’s Naz Bohannon has been a beast on the boards this season as he has grabbed 9.7 rebounds per game, including ranking second in the NCAA in offensive rebounds per game with 4.64.
• Wright State’s Loudon Love and Northern Kentucky’s Drew McDonald were selected to the 2018-19 Lou Henson Award Watch List, presented annually to the nation's top mid-major player in Division I College Basketball. Love is tops in the HL and 13th in the country with five double-doubles, while McDonald is one of only seven active players to record 1,500 points and 600 rebounds.
• In addition, McDonald has been selected to the Naismith Hall of Fame's Karl Malone Award Watch List, presented to the nation's top power-forward and one of 30 of candidates for the Senior CLASS Award, given to a student-athlete in their final year of eligibility that has notable achievements in four areas of excellence: community, classroom, character and competition. Among active players, he ranks ninth in double-doubles, 10th in rebounds and 17th in points.

In addition, the Golden Grizzlies are 11th in 3-point field-goal percentage at 41.5 percent to lead the HL as the League has the fifth-best conference 3-point shooting percentage at 35.9.
• Oakland has proved to be early on one of the best in the nation at holding on to the ball and also sharing it. The Golden Grizzlies are third in the NCAA in assist-to-turnover ratio at 1.79, eighth in the country in assists per game (19.3) and 20th in the NCAA in turnovers per game (10.8). A pair of Golden Grizzlies are top-20 in the nation in assist-to-turnover ratio with Jordan Nobles ranking eight (5.00) and Braden Norris at 17th 3.92.
• UIC’s Tarkus Ferguson and NKU’s McDonald have each recorded one of only 14 triple-doubles this season. The Horizon League is one of only two conference in the country to have multiple players register triple-doubles this season.
