(Jan. 18, 2018) — The road teams went 3-1 in Horizon League men’s basketball action on Thursday night, with Cleveland State, UIC, Wright State, and Northern Kentucky earning victories. Visiting and league-leading Wright State (7-0 HL) limited Green Bay to 36 percent shooting in an 80-67 win, with point guard Cole Gentry tallying a career-high 23 points on 9-of-11 shooting. Drew McDonald scored a game-high 25 points to lead second-place Northern Kentucky (6-1 HL) to a commanding 91-64 victory at Milwaukee. Meanwhile, UIC sophomore Marcus Ottey recorded the league’s top point total of the night with a career-best 29-point outing (12-15 FG) in the Flames’ 92-78 win at Youngstown State, while reigning Horizon League Defensive Player of the Year Tai Odiase became the conference’s all-time blocks leader with 310 rejections. Sophomore Tarkus Ferguson, who recently returned to the Flames’ lineup after missing the month of December due to injury, recorded his first double-double of the season with a 14-point, 10-assist performance. In the night’s opening game, Cleveland State successfully defended its home court versus IUPUI, 70-67, with senior Kenny Carpenter scoring a game-high 23 points.

Vikings use balance attack to top IUPUI, 70-67
(Courtesy of CSUVikings.com) — CLEVELAND — Kenny Carpenter scored 23 points and Evan Clayborne added a career-high 10 points to help Cleveland State to a 70-67 win over IUPUI on Thursday night in the Wolstein Center. CSU improved to 5-15 overall and 2-5 in the Horizon League, while the Jaguars fell to 7-12 overall (4-4 HL).

UIC shoots past Youngstown State, 92-78
(Courtesy of UICFlames.com) — YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio — UIC connected a season-high 14 times from 3-point range and turned it over a season-low nine times to pick up a well-earned road win in Horizon League play at Youngstown State, 92-78. Marcus Ottey exploded for a career-high 29 points, shooting 80 percent (12-of-15) from the field with a career-best four 3-pointers. He also added five rebounds, three assists and a pair of steals in the victory for the Flames (9-11, 4-3 Horizon League). Tai Odiase chipped in with a season-high 17 points for UIC, while blocking five shots. His fifth and final block of the game with 13:02 remaining was the 310th of his career, making the senior the Horizon League's all-time leader in that category.

Raiders stay perfect in league play with win at Green Bay
(Courtesy of WSURaiders.com) — GREEN BAY, Wis. — The Wright State men's basketball team stayed on top of the Horizon League and stayed perfect in conference play at 7-0 as they won 80-67 at Green Bay Thursday night with a balanced scoring attack of five players in double-figure scoring. Big nights from newcomers as Loudon Love had his eighth double-double with 12 points and 14 rebounds. Cole Gentryfinished with a career-high 23 points, hitting all five of his three-point attempts. Everett Winchester ended with 14 points, his most since he scored 14 against Kent State on December 9. He added six rebounds.  Mark Hughes had 13 points, and Jaylon Hall ended with 10 points.

Offense shines in @NKUNorseMBB's 91-64 win over Milwaukee
(Courtesy of NKUNorse.com) — MILWAUKEE — Drew McDonald and Lavone Holland IIeach recorded a double-double, and Tyler Sharpeadded a career-high 19 points, as the Northern Kentucky men's basketball team rolled past Milwaukee on Thursday evening, 91-64. The Norse move to 13-6 overall and 6-1 in Horizon League play. Milwaukee falls to 9-12 and 2-6 in League play.
