INDIANAPOLIS — Horizon League Preseason First Team selection, Martez Walker, posted a pair of 32-point performances and averaged 28.7 points in Oakland’s three wins en route to being named Horizon League Player of the Week. Meanwhile, in two games, Cleveland State’s Tyree Appleby averaged 10 points on 56-percent shooting and notched a career-best assist total to earn Freshman of the Week honors.
 
PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Walker averaged 28.7 points per game last week, helping to lead Oakland to a 3-0 record with wins at Oral Roberts and Western Michigan and at home against Texas Southern. Walker scored a career-high 32 points (12-20 FG) on Nov. 27 in an overtime win over Oral Roberts, adding six rebounds and five assists in addition to posting the game-best scoring total. At Western Michigan on Dec. 2, he matched his newly-set career high with another 32-point performance on 10-of-14 shooting, including 5-of-7 marksmanship from 3-point range. The result marked Oakland’s first victory in Kalamazoo since 2000. The six-foot-six guard recorded 22 points and a career-high four blocks in the Golden Grizzlies’ win against Texas Southern on Nov. 29. In that contest, four Oakland players scored 20 or more points for the first time in the program’s Division-I era. Walker shot 57 percent from the field and 42 percent from beyond the arc for the week.

FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK
Tyree Appleby | Cleveland State | Fr. | Guard | Jacksonville, Ark.
Appleby averaged 10 points, 2.5 rebounds, and 3.5 assists last week as Cleveland State posted a 1-1 record, defeating Arkansas State (Nov. 29) at home before falling at Kent State (Dec. 2). In the Vikings’ 75-72 victory over Arkansas State, Appleby dished out a career-high seven assists in addition to scoring seven points and grabbing two rebounds. The six-foot-one guard recorded 13 points and three rebounds, shooting 6-of-10 from the field, versus Kent State. For the week, Appleby shot 56 percent from the field.
