INDIANAPOLIS — For a second-consecutive week, Wright State’s
Loudon Love earned Horizon League Freshman of the Week honors, while Oakland’s
Jalen Hayes, who averaged 31 points and nine boards in a pair of wins, was tabbed league Player of the Week for the second time in three weeks.

Hayes averaged 31 points and nine rebounds en route to helping Oakland to a pair of home wins — snapping Towson’s 10-game winning streak on Wednesday (97-86) and besting Eastern Michigan on Friday, 86-81. In the Golden Grizzlies’ win versus Towson, which entered the match-up ranked No. 4 in the College Insider Mid-Major Top 25, Hayes notched his conference-leading sixth double-double of the season, tallying 25 points (7-of-11 FG) and 10 boards. Two nights later, Hayes connected on 14 of 21 field goal attempts versus Eastern Michigan to net a career-high 37 points. In the two contests, Hayes shot 66 percent from the field (21-of-32) and 91 percent from the foul line (20-of-22). His stellar week garnered the redshirt senior national acclaim and honors, including the Lou Henson Award national player of the week honor. The Lou Henson Award is presented annually to the top Mid-Major player in Division I college basketball.

FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK

Love scored 16 points and pulled down a game-best 12 rebounds on Friday to help Wright State best ACC opponent Georgia Tech on the road, 85-81, marking the Raiders’ eighth win in their last 10 outings. Connecting on seven of his nine field goal attempts, Love finished as the Raiders’ third leading scorer and one of five Wright State players to score in double figures. Three nights earlier, he tallied five points and eight rebounds in a 66-50 loss at Missouri State. In the setback, he hauled in a game-high five offensive rebounds. Averaging a double-double of 10.5 points and 10 rebounds in the two contests, Love overtook Detroit Mercy’s Kameron Chatman as the Horizon League’s rebounding leader with 111 through 13 games. His average of 3.2 offensive boards per game also leads the league. Love’s Freshman of the Week honor was his second in as many weeks.
