(Dec. 23, 2017) — Sophomores Dikembe Dixson and Dominique Matthews combined to score 45 of UIC’s 84 points on Saturday as the Flames defeated the Trinity Christian College Trolls, 84-45, to close out their non-conference slate. UIC held the Trolls to 29 percent shooting from the field (16-of-56) and 26 percent shooting from 3-point range (7-of-27) in the win. In other Horizon League action, visiting Toledo bested Cleveland State, 77-62, and Wisconsin downed Green Bay, 81-60, at the Kohl Center in Madison.

Vikings fall to Toledo in final non-league home game

CLEVELAND — Cleveland State fell to Toledo, 77-62, in its final non-league home game on the season on Saturday afternoon at the Wolstein Center. Playing for the third time in the last five days, the Vikings fell to 3-9, while Toledo improved to 7-5 thanks to a hot shooting second half.

CHICAGO — UIC closed the non-conference portion of its 2017-18 schedule Saturday afternoon by dismantling the Trinity Christian College Trolls, 84-45, at the UIC Pavilion. In addition to outscoring the Trolls, UIC (5-8) dominated the glass, 48-29, winning the rebounding battle for the sixth consecutive game. In those contests the Flames have a margin of +85 on the backboard. Sophomores Dikembe Dixson and Dominique Matthews were close to unstoppable for the Flames (5-8). The pair combined to score 45 points with season-high tallies of 25 (Dixson) and 20 points (Matthews). Dixson converted a season-high nine field goals, while Matthews buried six shots from beyond the arc to match a career high in that area.

Green Bay falls, 81-60, at Wisconsin in final nonconference game

MADISON, Wis. — The Green Bay men's basketball team ran into a hot shooting Wisconsin side in the first half on Saturday evening, eventually falling 81-60 at the Kohl Center in its final nonconference game of the season. GB (5-8) finishes the nonconference season with a 5-8 record and will now turn its attention to Horizon League play, which will begin next weekend. Wisconsin (6-7) shot 61.3 percent in the first half, and took a 20-point lead into halftime before holding off GB in the second half. The Badgers also outrebounded the Phoenix by a final tally of 40-20, and scored 46 points in the paint compared to GB's 14.
