(Dec. 21, 2017) — Horizon League men’s basketball suffered a trio of setbacks on Thursday night, with Green Bay and UIC falling by a combined 10-point margin. Hosting Mid-American Conference opponent, Bowling Green, at home, Green Bay fell narrowly in overtime, 81-78. The Phoenix's Khalil Small was the league’s high scorer on the night. Small, a senior guard, tallied a team-best 19 points and finished just one rebound shy of recording his third double-double of the season.

Vikings shoot 50 percent, but fall to 20th-ranked Cincinnati, 81-62
(Courtesy of CSUVikings.com) — HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. — Cleveland State shot 50-percent from the field, but 20th-ranked Cincinnati used a late push to pull away and claim an 81-62 victory over the Vikings on Thursday night in BB&T Arena. Playing one of the top defensive teams in the nation, the Vikings shot 23-of-46 from the floor and hit 10-of-21 from three-point. Tyree Appleby led CSU with 16 points and four assists, while Kenny Carpenter scored 11 points. Stefan Kenic added eight points and five rebounds and Bobby Word tallied eight points.

Green Bay falls to Bowling Green in overtime in Cohen's debut
(Courtesy of GreenBayPhoenix.com) — GREEN BAY, Wis. — Green Bay had a chance to win the game with the final possession in regulation on Thursday night, but it couldn't get a shot off and eventually fell in overtime to Bowling Green 81-78 at the Resch Center. It was the debut of Sandy Cohen III as a member of the Phoenix, who finished with 16 points on the night with the adrenaline running high. Bowling Green (8-4) opened the overtime period, scoring 11 of the first 14 points in the period, taking a 73-65 lead with 2:18 to go in OT. GB fought back to force a two-point game with 24 seconds remaining, but BGSU would end up making 8-straight free throws to secure the road victory.

UIC can't overcome miscues at UIC

(Courtesy of UICFlames.com) — DEKALB, Ill. — In another close contest that featured 12 lead changes, including 10 in the first half, the UIC Flames could not overcome the NIU Huskies on the road Thursday night, falling 69-63. The Flames (4-8) shot 45 percent from the floor, but only 15 percent from beyond the arc as the Huskies (7-5) prevailed in the in-state showdown. NIU was also aided by 17 UIC turnovers, while committing only nine of its own.
