INDIANAPOLIS — Following the second week of regular-season action, Northern Kentucky’s Lavone Holland II has been named Horizon League Player of the Week, while Detroit Mercy’s Jermaine Jackson Jr., has earned Freshman of the Week honors. The pair of guards played integral roles in helping their respective clubs to 2-1 records last week, with Holland II averaging better than 16 points per contest en route to leading NKU to a runner-up finish in the Islands of the Bahamas Showcase. Jackson Jr., scored in double figures in each of the Titan’s three contests and hit two 3-pointers in the final 10 seconds to force overtime in a 116-109, overtime win versus Houston Baptist.
PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Lavone Holland II | Northern Kentucky | Senior | Guard | Louisville, Ky.
Holland II, a preseason all-conference second team selection, led Northern Kentucky to the title game of the Islands of the Bahamas Showcase and runner-up finish, averaging 16.3 points, five assists, two rebounds, and 1.7 steals over three games. The senior guard maintained a 50-percent clip from the field throughout the tournament (14-of-28), including 9-of-18 shooting from 3-point range and 12-of-14 marksmanship from the charity stripe. Holland II scored in double figures in each of the Norse’s three contests in which NKU posted a 2-1 record, including a game-high 24-point outing in an 87-78, opening-round win versus James Madison. He posted the game-high assist mark in each of NKU’s contests. Holland II was named to the Islands of the Bahamas Showcase All-Tournament Team.

FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK
Jermaine Jackson Jr. | University of Detroit Mercy | Freshman | Guard | Shelby Township, Mich.
Rookie Jermaine Jackson Jr., started all three games at point guard for the Titans last week, averaging 13 points, five assists, 2.6 rebounds, and 1.3 steals. He scored in double figures in all three games, including a big performance against Houston Baptist in which he finished with 14 points, five rebounds, and a team- and season-high eight assists. Jackson Jr., connected on a pair of 3-pointers in the final 10 seconds of regulation versus Houston Baptist to send the game to overtime, including the game-tying triple with just one second on the clock. The Titans eventually prevailed in overtime, 116-109.
