Dudley Delivers Double OT Winner Over UDM, 2-1 -- Box Score

DETROIT - Matt Dudley scored the game-winning goal off a free kick in double overtime to lead Oakland over the University of Detroit Mercy in men's soccer action, 2-1, Wednesday afternoon at Titan Field. With the victory the Golden Grizzlies claim the first two points of the inaugural Metro Series, driven by Trinity Transportation.

"This was a great effort by the boys tonight against a very good Detroit-Mercy team," said head coach Eric Pogue. "The guys just kept the belief and working hard. They got a goal but we knew we still had plenty of time for our chances to come. We just kept persevering and for that goal to come to get us in the game was big. Titans Fall in Double Overtime to Oakland, 2-1 -- Box Score

DETROIT (10/1/2014) -- The University of Detroit Mercy men's soccer team battled local-rival Oakland University all the way into double overtime Wednesday afternoon at Titan Field, but the Titans (4-4-1, 1-1 Horizon League) dropped a 2-1 match against the Golden Grizzlies (1-5-1, 1-0-1 HL). The game was the first in the newly-created Metro Series, which was announced to the public and fans earlier on Monday.

Both teams had some opportunities to score in the first half. A shot by Oakland's John DeLeon nicked the crossbar in the first stanza, while just minutes later, Detroit had a good look at the net as UDM junior defender Jason Leslie (Troy, Mich. / Troy) received a pass in the box and sent a shot towards the left side of the net. Oakland goalkeeper Wes Mink was up to the task, making a sprawling save. Read more

Men's Soccer Picks Up 3-0 League Win Over Belmont -- Box Score

The Wright State men's soccer team scored three first-half goals and made that stand up for a 3-0 Horizon League victory over Belmont Wednesday night at Alumni Field.

Sophomore Peguy Ngatcha opened up the scoring at the 20:08 mark of the first half with his fourth goal of the season as he connected on a shot at the top right just outside the box.  Senior Bryce Rockwell-Ashton picked up the assist, his first of the year. Read more

Men's Soccer on Wrong End at Wright State -- Box Score

DAYTON, Ohio - - Belmont University men's soccer dropped a 3-0 decision Wednesday night at Wright State.

The Bruins, fresh off an inspired second 45 against Valparaiso last Friday, created some early chances.

Sophomore AJ Arnold (Jackson, Miss.) sent a header high in the second minute, then moments later after some nice build up, freshman Matt Vuylsteke (Hamilton, Ont., Canada) nearly tallied, but his right-footed redirect went just wide. Read more

Flames Hang on for 1-0 Shutout Victory over No. 25 Valparaiso -- Box Score

CHICAGO – After junior Joel Salmeron scored in the sixth minute, the UIC men’s soccer team (5-2-2, 1-0-1 HL) held off No. 25 Valparaiso (5-2-3, 1-1-0 HL) the remaining 84 minutes of play to collect a 1-0 shutout victory Wednesday night at Flames Field. Salmeron’s goal, assisted by junior Jorge Alvarez, marked his first of the season.

With the win, the Flames pick up their first Horizon League victory of the season while posting their fourth shutout and improving their home record to 4-0-1. UIC outshot the Crusaders, 12-11, while Valparaiso owned a 7-4 margin in shots on goal. Read more

Crusaders Fall to UIC on the Road -- Box Score

The #25 Valparaiso men’s soccer team suffered its first loss on the road as they fell to league foe UIC in a hard-fought and physical match Wednesday night, 1-0.

The Crusaders fell behind early to the Flames, as Joel Salmeron placed one passed sophomore Nico Campbell (Kingston, Jamaica/St. George’s College) in the sixth minute. Read more

Green Bay Retains Chancellor's Cup with Positive Result -- Box Score

GREEN BAY, Wis. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) – In what turned out to be a heated and highly contested affair, the Green Bay men’s soccer team finished in a 2-2 draw with Milwaukee on Wednesday night at Santaga Stadium. The positive result means the Phoenix will hold on to the Chancellor’s Cup for another season after defeating Milwaukee last year.

The Phoenix (3-3-3, 0-0-1 Horizon League) had to battle back to earn the draw after trailing 1-0 early and later behind 2-1, following a red card handed to Green Bay in the 73rd minute. Playing down a man with less than four minutes remaining and still trailing, the Horizon League’s leading scorer Audi Jepson (Green Bay, Wis.) converted on a free kick to tie the game at 2-2 in the 87th minute. Milwaukee Unable to Finish Off Green Bay -- Box Score

GREEN BAY, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee men's soccer team held leads of 1-0 and 2-1 but was unable to close out the victory, drawing against the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay by a final score of 2-2 Wednesday night at Aldo Santaga Stadium.

The Panthers (3-5-2, 0-1-1 Horizon League) played the final 17 minutes of regulation and the overtime periods up a man after a red card on the Phoenix (3-3-3, 0-0-1 Horizon League), but were unable to find the golden goal to retain possession of the Chancellor's Cup. Read more
