Zach Peterson threw 7 1/3 strong innings and top-seed University of Illinois at Chicago rallied from an early three-run deficit for a 5-4 victory over fourth-seed Wright State University in Thursday's nightcap of the 2005 Horizon League Baseball Championship at Victory Field.
Peterson, who earned first-team All-League honors Tuesday, struck out five and allowed three earned runs in improving to 9-1 on the season with his eighth straight win dating back to mid-March.
With the win, UIC (36-18-1) advances to meet second-seed Youngstown State University Friday at 7 p.m. Indianapolis local time for the right to play in Saturday's championship game. Wright State (25-32) falls to the consolation bracket and will face fifth-seed Cleveland State University at 11 a.m. in a rematch of Wednesday's tournament opener won by the Raiders 5-2. Third-seed University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee will await the winner of that game at 3 p.m.

Brent Parks' walk-off single in the 11th pushed second-seed Youngstown State University to a 4-3 victory over third-seed University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee in Thursday's second game of the 2005 Horizon League Baseball Championship at Victory Field.
With Justin Banks on second and two out, Parks' line shot up the middle was fielded cleanly by Panthers' centerfielder Mike Goetz whose throw to the plate appeared to be on line but bounced off the back of the pitcher's mound as Banks slid home with the winning run.
Banks had reached base on a single to deep third and advanced to second when Panthers third baseman Charlie Reschke threw the ball into the stands.

He has also been a board member for United Cerebral Palsy of Dayton and the Miami Military Affairs Association. In May of 2001, he was awarded the Fairborn Chamber of Commerce's highest honor--the Award for Civil Excellence.

Chris Snyder threw a complete game and was helped out by three double plays as fourth-seed Wright State University rolled to a 5-2 victory over fifth-seed Cleveland State University Wednesday in the first game of the 2005 Horizon League Baseball Championship at Victory Field.
After giving up back-to-back hits to open the game, Snyder (6-6) settled in, as the Raiders (25-31) won their first League tournament game since 2000, ending an eight-game losing streak. The 6-foot-5 junior struck out five and scattered nine hits while allowing only one run in the final eight innings.
Wright State tied the game in the third and took the lead in the fourth when Paul Majestic singled to right to score Bryan Vickers. The Vikings (13-35) knotted the game again in the fifth when Snyder hit Ben Smith, who moved up on a sacrifice bunt by Josh Geric and scored on a single to center by Bobby Cash.

Aaron Sorenson pitched seven strong innings and Mike Goetz had an early bases-clearing triple to propel third-seed University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee to a 7-5 victory over sixth-seed Butler University Wednesday in the second game of the 2005 Horizon League Baseball Championship at Victory Field,
With the win, the Panthers (23-29) advance to face second-seed Youngstown State University Thursday at 3 p.m. Indianapolis local time, while Butler will meet fifth-seed Cleveland State University in an elimination game at 11 a.m.
Sorenson (9-3), who was named the League's Newcomer of the Year Tuesday, struck out five and allowed only three hits and one earned run in tying the UWM single-season record with his ninth victory.

Ochwat began the week with a 5-for-5 performance with two RBI and a run scored in helping the Vikings top Purdue 10-3. He was crucial in helping CSU take the final three games of a series against Butler, driving in three runs on a triple in the first win, scoring two runs and driving in two on a home run in the second win and going 3-for-5 with a home run, two runs scored and two RBI in the third win that clinched fifth-place for the Vikings. He is currently leading the team with a .361 average and 12 steals.
