INDIANAPOLIS -- A total of 738 student-athletes from all 10 Horizon League institutions and all 19 League sports compile the 2011 Fall Academic Honor Roll. 

In the final Horizon League men’s basketball game before the Sears BracketBusters, Detroit kept pace in trying to position itself for the No. 3 seed in the League Tournament, collecting a 71-55 win at Wright State on Wednesday night.

After wins by Butler and Youngstown State on Saturday, the pressure was on Detroit and Milwaukee to keep pace in the race for third place in the Horizon League. At the end of Sunday, it was just the Titans who were able to keep up, while the Panthers were left a game out of the three-way tie for third.

The 27^th game of the Horizon League men’s basketball season to be within a single possession brought about a four-way tie for third place in the conference standings, while the 28^th occurrence kept six of the teams bunched within two games on Friday night.

Upheaval was the name of the game on Thursday evening, with the teams sitting in first and third place in the Horizon League knocked off their perches. Whether that continues on the League ladder this weekend remains to be seen, but with just two games separating the teams in third and eighth, chaos is bubbling just under the surface.

The Detroit women’s basketball team walked into the Kress Events Center in Green Bay on Thursday night and handed the ninth-ranked Phoenix their first loss of the season as the Titans and Wright State, currently tied for second place, both gained a game on first place Green Bay in the conference standings.

INDIANAPOLIS -- The defending Horizon League Tournament champions, UIC has been voted the favorite to repeat, receiving six of nine first-place votes and 60 points in  voting of the League’s head coaches.

 



INDIANAPOLIS – Wright State is the favorite to win the 2012 Horizon League Baseball Championship in balloting by the conference’s six head coaches.  The Raiders received 25 points and five first-place votes. 

As the end of the Horizon League regular season draws closer, the intensity in each game increases exponentially. Milwaukee, Detroit and Valparaiso were able to capture key wins on Saturday, helping shuffle the League standings and gain tie-breaker advantages.

With byes, home games and future seeds on the line for the Horizon League Tournament, every game matters. And with six teams jumbled within two games of each other, the League standings have never been closer.
