First Quarter Run Helps Loyola to 82-67 Win Over Legnano Basket

LEGNANO, Italy -- Loyola University Chicago used a 20-4 run midway through the first quarter to turn a one-point deficit into a 13-point lead as it earned an 82-67 victory over Legnano Basket. The win gives the Ramblers a 3-1 record on their four-game trip to Italy and senior forward Ben Averkamp had his best performance of the trip, collecting 21 points and 10 rebounds.

Fast Start Propels Loyola Past Zepa Marostica, 92-39

DUEVILLE, Italy -- Jordan Hicks scored 10 of the team’s first 12 points as Loyola University Chicago rolled to a 92-39 victory over Zepa Marostica tonight in game three of the team’s four-game trip to Italy. Hicks was named most valuable player of the game after scoring 14 points, 12 of which came in the first half, and grabbing five rebounds. The  win moves the Ramblers to 2-1 on the trip.

Five Women's Soccer Teams Collect Wins on Sunday

INDIANAPOLIS -- With Loyola and Youngstown State opening their seasons on Sunday, all eight Horizon League women’s soccer programs have now played at least one match. After Sunday’s five matches, six have scored results, with all five Horizon League teams in action on the day -- Youngstown State, Cleveland State, Milwaukee, Loyola and Valparaiso -- all collecting wins.

Late Run Sends Pallacanestro Bassano Del Grappa Past Loyola, 74-65

BASSANO DEL GRAPPA, Italy -- Pallacanestro Bassano del Grappa closed the game on a 20-6 run to erase a five-point deficit and earn a 74-65 victory over Loyola University Chicago this evening. The loss is the Ramblers' first on their four-game tour and comes on the heels of a 92-56 win against All-Star Italy.

Milwaukee Selected as Preseason Volleyball Favorite

INDIANAPOLIS -- Milwaukee, winner of the regular season Horizon League volleyball title eight of the past nine years, has been pegged as the preseason favorite in the 2012 conference race.  Milwaukee received seven first place votes to earn the top spot in a preseason poll of the league’s eight head volleyball coaches.  Coaches were not allowed to vote for their own team in the poll.

Balanced Attack Leads Loyola to 92-56 Victory Over All-Star Italy

ROME -- Freshman Matt O’Leary led five players in double-figures with a team-high 22 points and Loyola University Chicago overcame some early jitters to erase an early deficit en route to a 92-56 victory over All-Star Italy tonight. The Ramblers connected on 13 of 25 shots from three-point range en route to the victory. Tonight's game, which was played under FIBA rules, was the first of four contests for Loyola on its 14-day trip to Italy.

Wright State Tabbed Men's Soccer Preseason Favorite

INDIANAPOLIS -- Capping a remarkable turnaround, Wright State has been voted into first place in the Horizon League men’s soccer preseason poll. In a narrow vote that saw the top three teams separated by two points, the Raiders captured the top spot with 40 points. Coaches were not allowed to vote for their own squad.

Young Ramblers Take Act Overseas, Head To Italy

CHICAGO -- After wrapping up a session of classes and summer workouts, the youthful Loyola University Chicago men’s basketball squad will embark on a two-week tour of Italy when it takes off for Rome today. While overseas, the Ramblers will play four games in four different cities before returning to Chicago Aug. 23.

Gibler Signs Contract to Play in German League

CHICAGO -- Former Loyola University Chicago men’s basketball standout Walt Gibler (Cincinnati,Ohio/St. Xavier) has signed a professional contract to play for Topstar Leitershofen in Germany.
