Valparaiso Hires Kate Stake as Head Softball Coach

Valparaiso University director of athletics Mark LaBarbera announced today that Kate Stake has been hired as the new head coach of the Crusader softball program.  Stake comes to Valpo with eight seasons of assistant coaching experience at the Division I level, most recently serving as an assistant at mid-major power Hofstra.

Former UIC Softball Player Courtney Heeley Joins USA Team Handball

CHICAGO – Former UIC softball player Courtney Heeley was recently chosen to be a part of USA Team Handball following the Women's Residency Program tryouts at Auburn University’s Beard-Eaves Memorial Coliseum in Auburn, Ala. Heeley was selected among 14 athletes in attendance and is the only known former UIC student-athlete to compete with USA Team Handball.

McCallum Earns NBA Summer League Championship MVP

LAS VEGAS -- Behind a 29-point, nine-rebound effort, 2013 Horizon League Player of the Year Ray McCallum (Beverly Hills, Mich./Detroit Country Day) earned most valuable player honors in the NBA Summer League championship game on Monday night, leading the Sacramento Kings to a 77-68 win over the Houston Rockets at the Thomas & Mack Center.

Sykes Invited to CP3 Elite Guard Camp

GREEN BAY, Wis. – Green Bay senior guard Keifer Sykes (Chicago, Ill./Marshall) will be one of the 20 collegiate guards nationally to participate in the invitation-only CP3 Elite Guard Camp hosted by Los Angeles Clipper and NBA All-Star point guard Chris Paul. Sykes, who says he has never been to any basketball camp, will attend the camp run by one of the top point guards in the NBA from Aug. 7-10 in Paul’s hometown of Winston Salem, N.C.

Valpo Basketball Helps in Peters' Hometown of Washington

The Valparaiso men’s basketball team took a break from summer workouts on Monday to give back to the community of sophomore Alec Peters, whose hometown of Washington, Ill., was devastated by a massive tornado last November.

Cleveland State Women's Tennis Earns Academic Honors From ITA

SKILLMAN, N.J. – The Cleveland State women's tennis team picked up multiple academic honors from the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) last week, as Alex Bush, Princess Gbadamosi, Lauren Golick, and Alex Power were all named ITA Scholar-Athletes. For the first time since the 2011 season, the team as a whole also earned ITA All-Academic status.

Kacey Burke Hired as Green Bay Head Women's Soccer Coach

GREEN BAY, Wis. – A former member of the United States National Team and NCAA All-American, Kacey Burke has been hired as the next head women’s soccer coach at Green Bay, Director of Athletics Mary Ellen Gillespie announced on Friday. Burke will step into the role immediately and lead the Phoenix into the upcoming 2014 season. A full national search will be conducted at the conclusion of the season.

WSU's Ivory James to Play Professionally in Romania
