Cleveland State shot .676 (25-37) from the field, the third highest percentage in school history, and four players scored in double figures as the Vikings won at Loyola, 65-47, on Friday night in Gentile Arena.

As the end of the Horizon League regular season draws closer, the intensity in each game increases exponentially. Milwaukee, Detroit and Valparaiso were able to capture key wins on Saturday, helping shuffle the League standings and gain tie-breaker advantages.

With byes, home games and future seeds on the line for the Horizon League Tournament, every game matters. And with six teams jumbled within two games of each other, the League standings have never been closer.

With 25 days left in the Horizon League regular season, three teams stand tied with 6-5 records in conference play. All three are in action on Thursday night, giving each one a chance to solidify positioning for the League Tournament.

The records didn’t lie on Thursday night in Horizon League women’s basketball as all four games saw the team with the better conference record pick up the victory.

The Horizon League men’s basketball standings had a three-way tie at the beginning of the day, and by the end of the night, three teams were knotted in the ladder once more after Butler, Valparaiso and UIC claimed victories.

CLEVELAND, Ohio - Cleveland State sophomore and women's basketball student-athlete, Brandee Kelly will be receiving the 2011 Cleveland Clinic Courage Award on Thursday (Feb. 2) at the Greater Cleveland Sports Awards Banquet. Kelly, a native of St. Louis, Mo., is receiving the award after overcoming her battle with lymphoma, a type of blood cancer that affects cells of the immune system.

INDIANAPOLIS – Wright State’s Hermanus Botha and Butler’s Lauren Scotti are the Horizon League Men’s and Women’s Swimmer of the Week for Jan. 23-29.

INDIANAPOLIS -- Green Bay junior Craig Cox (Surrey, England) has been named Horizon League Men’s Tennis Athlete of the Week, while Milwaukee junior Maddy Soule (New Braunfels, Texas) has earned Horizon League Women’s Tennis Athlete of the Week honors, for the week of Jan. 23-29.

On January 11-14, Indianapolis hosted more than 2400 delegates attending the annual NCAA Convention, and although a majority of convention delegates and attendees were from Divisions II and III, much of the news and many decisions of the week centered on Division I and specifically on Division I reform.
