INDIANAPOLIS - Youngstown State senior guard DeAndre Mays has been named the Horizon League Men's Basketball Player of the Week for the week ending Jan. 10.

A native of Dallas, Texas, Mays averaged 22.5 points and three rebounds in the Penguins' homecourt victories over UIC (76-67) and Loyola (71-67) last week. He scored a team-high 15 points against the Flames Thursday and then came back with a career-best 30 versus the Ramblers on Saturday.

For the week, Mays shot 50 percent (14-of-28) from the field, including 6-for-9 from three-point range, and 11-of-13 from the free-throw line.

Mays ranks 12th in the League in scoring with a team-leading 13.2 points per game.

Youngstown State (7-8, 2-4) will hit the road this week for games at Valparaiso (6-11, 1-4) on Thursday and NR/#22 Butler (12-4, 5-0) on Saturday.

Jeremy Buttell, UIC (Sr., F) - Averaged 26.5 points and 10 rebounds while shooting 60 percent from the field in two losses and scored a career-high 31 points at Youngstown State
Vaughn Duggins, Wright State (Jr., G) - Averaged 15.5 points as the Raiders split a pair of games, including hitting the game-winner with four seconds left in a victory over Valparaiso
Ricky Franklin, Milwaukee (Sr., G) - Averaged 17 points, 6.5 rebounds and 5 assists in a 2-0 week for the Panthers that included a key League win over rival Green Bay
Gordon Hayward, Butler (So., G/F) - In two League wins, averaged 18.5 points and 8 rebounds, including 20 points at Wright State and 17 at Detroit
Terrance Hill, Loyola (Jr., G) - Averaged 15.5 points and 3.5 rebounds as the Ramblers lost a pair of road games last week
Cory Johnson, Valparaiso (Jr., F) - Averaged 24 points and 7 rebounds and shot 68 percent from the floor in two losses, with a career-high 31 points at Detroit
Jeremy Montgomery, Cleveland State (So., G) - Averaged 16 points in a pair of Vikings wins, including key free throws in the final minute against both Loyola and UIC
Bryquis Perine, Green Bay (Jr., G) - Had 15 points, 6 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 steals at Milwaukee in Green Bay's only game of the week
Chase Simon, Detroit (So., G) - Posted averages 18.5 points and 4.5 rebounds with a career-high 23 points against NR/#22 Butler in a 1-1 week for the Titans
