CLEVELAND - In Game 8 of the 2010 Horizon League Softball Championship, No. 4 Valparaiso defeated No. 5 Green Bay, 1-0. The Crusaders advance to Game 9 where they will take on No. 2 Wright State. Green Bay is eliminated from the tournament after suffering its second loss.
The Crusaders jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the second inning and never looked back as Horizon League All-Newcomer team honoree Jessie Marinec posted her 23rd RBI of the season, sending teammate KC Boldt home on a groundout to the Green Bay shortstop.
Valpo pitcher Alex Lagesse picked up the win in a complete-game shutout. The sophomore gave up a mere four hits while striking out a season-high 10 batters.
Action begins again Saturday morning at 10 a.m. ET with Green Bay taking on Valparaiso. All contests tomorrow will be shown live on the Horizon League Network.
