GREEN BAY, Wis. – Green Bay Director of Athletics Mary Ellen Gillespie has announced the hiring of Tim Dean as the next men’s and women’s tennis coach. Dean will assume his duties as head coach immediately for Green Bay, bringing in over 10 years of coaching experience.
Dean joins the Phoenix after most recently serving as the Head Tennis Professional for Oneida Golf and Country Club. In that role, he leads the teaching efforts for all areas, including high performance, high school and youth teams. Dean has also served recently as the Tennis Coordinator at the Green Bay Tennis Center and also held the role of Assistant Tennis Director for the Grand Geneva Resort in Lake Geneva, Wis.
“I am honored and excited to take on both programs. I look forward to building a program where its student-athletes are known for their great sportsmanship, maximum effort, and positivity both on the tennis courts and in the community,” Dean said.
Dean competed collegiately for the University of Minnesota-Duluth, where four-time UMAC Champion, twice in singles competition and twice in doubles competition. He was named a First Team All-UMAC selection in both 2009 and 2010, while also playing a key part in two UMAC Tournament Championship teams.
“Tim stood out from the beginning of our process, and we are thrilled to have him join the Phoenix Family. He brings a great coaching acumen along with a good understanding of the collegiate game. I’m excited for the future of Green Bay tennis with Tim at the helm,” Associate AD for External Relations Craig Sandlin said.
He has also spent time coaching the sport in Tennis Life Camps, Summer Tennis Camps in Rhinelander, Wis., and at the Longview Tennis Club in Duluth. Dean has taught countless private lessons, spent some time coaching at Arrowhead High School and currently resides in De Pere.
