INDIANAPOLIS -- UIC senior Chris Rutta and Milwaukee senior Jordan Herbert have been named Horizon League Baseball Players of the Week for the period of March 8-14. Rutta registers his second career weekly honor from the League office, while Herbert records his first.
Rutta picks up Batter of the Week accolades after going 7-for-13 (.538) with one run, three doubles and four RBI in three games last week. He also registered a .769 slugging percentage and .538 on-base percentage for the Flames.
The outfielder, a native of Rothschild, Wis., recorded a 3-for-5 performance with two doubles in Friday's 9-7 setback to Big 12 Conference power Baylor.
Herbert notches Pitcher of the Week honors after allowing just two runs and four hits in a complete-game effort at #14 Arkansas. He carried a shutout into the ninth against the Razorbacks, but settled for a no-decision as the Panthers suffered a 3-2 defeat in 10 innings.
The right-hander, a native of Glendale, Wis., retired 12 consecutive batters and 19 of 20 at one stretch against the Southeastern Conference foe.
UIC (2-11) opens its home schedule on Friday at 5:05 p.m. ET when Creighton visits the Windy City for a three-game series. Milwaukee (4-8) continues its road slate on Friday at 4 p.m. when it opens a four-game set at Kansas State.
