What’s up Horizon League faithful!

Hope everyone had a great week, and after a successful midweek victory and four huge Horizon League games on the road, I’m happy to say the Raiders had a great week as well.

Wednesday we took on the Dayton Flyers in front of the biggest crowd of the season at Nischwitz Stadium for Military Appreciation Night. From the pre-game festivities, to getting a chance to meet some of our fellow classmates, peers, and elders that are affiliated with the armed forces or the Army ROTC, the overall experience and atmosphere was incredible. I know I speak for all of my teammates when I say that we were honored to be part of such an event and we were proud to don the camouflage uniforms for the night. A big thanks to everyone who came out and supported both our baseball program and the Wright State Army ROTC and the rest of the armed forces.

In weekend play, thankfully the baseball gods were on our side for the first time since Horizon League play started, holding the rain off long enough for us to complete all four games, while being victorious in three. Friday’s doubleheader match-up against Valparaiso brought stellar performances from some of our seniors, led by Alex Kaminsky’s complete game win in game one and Casey McGrew’s 8-for-9 day at the plate.

On Saturday, we were able to take a 5-4 victory in the first game of our doubleheader with UIC, behind timely hitting and solid pitching performances from Casey Henn and Michael Schum. A first inning slip up in game two made the deficit too difficult to come back from, as we lost 12-6. Nevertheless, I feel confident that if we continue hit, pitch and play defense like we have been recently, we should be able to learn from our mistakes and bounce back.

This week is another very important week for the Wright State baseball team as we play Trine University at home on Tuesday, a road match-up against Toledo on Wednesday, and a big three game set at Youngstown State this weekend.

That’s about all I have for this week, Go Raiders!
