INDIANAPOLIS - Cleveland State senior Phil Orno and sophomore Catrine Bjerrehus have been named Horizon League Tennis Players of the Week for the period of March 22-28.
Orno, a native of Snekkerston, Denmark, went 2-0 at No. 1 singles and 2-1 at No. 3 doubles over the weekend. He posted a 6-1, 6-3 win against Youngstown State on Friday and 6-3, 7-6 victory against Green Bay on Saturday. Orno also paired with Aris Spirtos to register 8-5 wins versus YSU and Green Bay.
Bjerrehus, a native of Aarhus, Denmark, went 6-0 on the weekend with three wins at No. 1 singles and three more at No. 1 doubles. She defeated Green Bay (6-3, 6-3) on Friday and picked up wins versus Milwaukee (3-6, 6-1, 6-1) and Case Western (6-0, 6-1) on Saturday. Bjerrehus also teamed with Charlotte Gibbons to register 8-2 (UWGB), 8-4 (UWM), and 8-2 (CWRU) wins over the weekend extending their doubles winning streak to 10.
The Cleveland State men and women continue League play this week when they travel to Valparaiso on Saturday and UIC on Sunday.
