Indianapolis – Oakland freshman Jake Kneen (White Lake, Mich.) has been named the Horizon League Golfer of the Week for the week of March 16-20.
Kneen shot all three rounds under-par at the Jackrabbit Invitational in Primm, Nev., to help lead the Golden Grizzlies to a fourth-place finish out of 15 teams. The freshman opened the event with a four-under-par 68 on the first day. He followed up with identical rounds of 71 to finish the tournament with a three-round score of 210, six-under-par. Kneen finished the tournament in a tie for 12th-place, his best finish this season. His 54-hole score of 210 is the lowest by a Horizon League freshman this year.
Only one Horizon League women’s golf team was in action last week, so there nomination will be carried forward to next week.
Other Top Golfers (March 16-20):
Tyler Schmidt, Green Bay – Schmidt finished in a tie for 19th at the Cape Fear National Intercollegiate with a 54-hole score of 227.
Nick Scott, Wright State – Scott got better every round at the Bobby Nichols Intercollegiate. After an opening round 75, he shot a 70 in the second round and finished the event with a 68 to finish with a three round score of 213. He finished in a tie for seventh out of 81 golfers.
Wil Witmann, Detroit – Witmann posted back-to-back three-under-par 69s in the first two rounds of the Bobby Nichols Intercollegiate. He recorded the team’s only eagle and collected a team-best 37 pars.
Bryan Yeo, Youngstown State – Yeo posted back-to-back 74s to finish with a 36-hole score of 148 at the Southern Intercollegiate. He was the top YSU finisher and placed 19th out of 84 golfers.
