Now Stepping to the Plate...

What’s up Horizon League faithful!

In my first entry I just wanted to introduce myself and follow it up by telling you all where the Raider baseball team is headed as we’ve reached the midpoint to this year’s baseball season.

My name is Jake Hibberd and I’m a sophomore infielder at Wright State University. I’m a proud alumni of Miamisburg High School where we boast the 5th winningest program in Ohio high school baseball history, and I can say it’s always a great day to be a Miamisburg Viking. Today, I believe I’m one of the most fortunate student-athletes around, being close enough to home where I’m supported by friends and family, while playing the game I love surrounded by great teammates and coaches.

To recap the season, the Raiders are currently 15-15 overall and we find ourselves in second place in Horizon League play at 6-3. As all teams do, we’ve been through ups and downs, garnering some monumental wins while having suffered some tough, unacceptable losses. Luckily for us, the previous weeks have put us on the right path to reach the ultimate goal of being a complete team by the Horizon League tournament. These small steps towards success should definitely support the big picture of capturing another Horizon League Championship... and more.

This week is a huge week for Raider baseball. Tonight we have one of the most anticipated mid-week games on our schedule, a home tilt against the cross-town rival Dayton Flyers. This is an important game on so many levels. Not only are you playing for bragging rights, but both teams also benefit from playing competitive, tournament-like baseball in front of a large crowd. This game is also exciting because it’s Military Appreciation Night, a night where we are able to thank the brave men and women that serve our nation while wearing our new camouflage unis.

The weekend also brings huge importance to our season as we are on the road with a doubleheader against league leading Valpo on Friday, and another twin bill against UIC on Saturday. These games are not only vital in terms of seeding for the Horizon League tournament, but big wins this weekend could be a used as a significant stepping stone to the rest our season.

So there’s a brief recap of just about everything happening in the life of the Wright State Raiders baseball team. Until next time...

"You could have read any blog in the world, but you’re here with me. I appreciate that."
