INDIANAPOLIS – Milwaukee’s Sam Keele and Emily McClellan are the Horizon League Men’s and Women’s Swimmer of the Week for Nov. 28-Dec. 4.
Keele, a senior from Idaho Falls, Idaho, had a record-setting weekend at the Hawkeye Invitational in Iowa City, Iowa, setting a new school-record in the 200-backstroke. Keele broke the record in the prelims, swimming in 2:03.36, before swimming a 2:03.64 in the finals to finish seventh. He also competed in the 200-individual medley finishing ninth (1:50.91) and the 400-individual medley finishing 13th (4:01.35). Keele was also part of two relay teams, swimming the second leg for the 200- and 400-medley relay teams that both finished in eighth place.
McClellan, a sophomore from Delavan, Wis., took home women’s top honors after setting meet, pool, school and conference records in three events at the Hawkeye Invitational. She set her first record on Friday in the 200-individual medley, taking home first place with a time of 2:00.00. On Saturday, she broke another record, this time in the 100-breaststroke, winning with a time of 59.83. On the final day of competition, McClellan won the 200-breaststroke in a time of 2:10.95.
Milwaukee is off for the rest of December and returns to action on January 14 with a dual-meet against Carthage.
