INDIANAPOLIS - Cleveland State senior, Victoria Bensimon has been selected as the Horizon League Women's Player of the Week and Valparaiso senior, Charlie Emhardt has been named Horizon League Men's Player of the Week.
Victoria Bensimon / Cleveland State / Senior / Cocoa Beach, Fla.
Bensimon won both of her singles matches playing as the Vikings' No. 2. After winning the first set 6-4 in the team's match versus Western Michigan, the senior dropped a hard-fought second set 5-7 before winning the tie-breaker on the tenth point. Against Oberlin, the native of Cocoa Beach, Fla. won in straight sets 6-0, 6-4 to help the team win the match 7-0. Bensimon has now won 63 matched in her career which ranks her seventh place in school history.
Charlie Emhardt / Valparaiso / Senior / Carmel, Ind.
Emhardt was elevated to No. 3 singles for the first time all year and responded by winning both matches over the weekend. After dropping the first set in the team's dual match versus Butler, the senior took the final two sets 6-3, 6-2 to help the Crusaders blank the Bulldogs 7-0. Facing William & Mary in their second match, Emhardt clinched the winning point in the team's dramatic 4-3 victory over the Tribe.
Victoria Bensimon and Jana Schober / Cleveland State
In the lone match that the two upperclassman finished, Bensimon and Schober didn't drop a game playing as the No. 1 doubles team versus Oberlin. Their win helped Cleveland State take down Oberlin 7-0.
Kyle Dunn and Garrett Gardner / Valparaiso
After missing the Wisconsin match because of illness, Dunn and Gardner returned to the court and won both matches played. Their doubles win over Butler aided the 7-0 victory while the pair's win over William & Mary clinched the doubles point that proved to be the difference winning 4-3.
