INDIANAPOLIS – UIC claims both Horizon League Offensive and Defensive Player of the Week spots this week. Horizon League Offensive Player of the week, midfielder Peter Becht netted two goals in UIC’s defeat of Horizon League-leading opponent, Green Bay. In goal, Sawyer Jackman helped the Flames to a 1-0-1 win-loss-tie record and has claimed this week’s Horizon League Defensive Player of the Week.

Peter Becht scored two goals to lead UIC to a 3-1 victory over conference leading and previously undefeated Green Bay. His first came after he disrupted two Phoenix in the Flames’ offensive end, corralled the loose ball, and shot quickly to the corner of the goal. Late in the game, he added another goal, heading a cross past the keeper to make it 3-0. Becht now has four goals on the season and is fourth in the conference in goal scoring. He has two game winners to lead the Horizon League.

Sawyer Jackman was instrumental in staking the Flames to a 1-0-1 record last week. Against Loyola, he made three saves including two on game winning shots. He poked away a dangerous header in the 90th minute, and then in overtime he saved a penalty kick to preserve the draw. Jackman saved another PK against Green Bay as he held the conference’s most prolific scoring team without a goal for nearly 90 minutes, only allowing a score on the rebound of the saved penalty. Jackman is second in the conference in saves and is unbeaten in the Flames’ last five games (4-0-1).
