Former Valparaiso catcher Matt Lenski signs professional contract

VALPARAISO, Ind. -- Former Valparaiso catcher Matt Lenski has signed a professional contract for the 2010 season with the Gary SouthShore RailCats of the Northern League.

Lenski led the Horizon League with a .406 batting average in 2009. He was a First-Team All-Horizon League selection after recording five home runs, 16 doubles, 43 runs batted in, a .588 slugging percentage and .482 on-base mark while starting 42 games for the Crusaders.

A left-handed hitter, Lenski was also named to the Horizon League's Academic All-League Team as well as an Academic All-District V selection.

Lenski hit .327 with eight roundtrippers and 61 RBI in 89 career games at Valparaiso.

The RailCats play in an Independent League, and open the 2010 season on May 20 against Kansas City at the U.S. Steel Yard.
