Green Bay caught a break it felt it deserved but didn't necessarily expect when the NCAA selection committee rewarded the Phoenix for a 27-4 regular season with the first at-large bid ever awarded to a team from the Horizon League.

They weren't about to let it go to waste, even if that meant contending with a player likely to be among the top picks in the upcoming WNBA draft.

"I mean, there's nobody I've played that I can compare to Monica Wright; she's just a heck of a player," Green Bay guard Celeste Hoewisch said by phone Sunday night. "She can do things that I haven't seen a girl do before. So I was really impressed with her. We just tried to slow her down as much as we could and just did our best."

Virginia's star got 34 points, but Green Bay got the 69-67 win, in no small part thanks to Hoewisch, who, even if her WNBA prospects aren't quite as limitless, was just as much up to the challenge of playing a starring role on the biggest basketball stage. Hoewisch led the Phoenix with 23 points and four steals in 37 minutes, hitting 5 of 8 shots from the floor and 13 of 15 from the free throw line.
