Butler runners Andy Baker and Madison Roeder closed out a successful cross country season for the Bulldogs at the 2009 NCAA Men's Cross Country Championship, hosted by Indiana State at the LaVern Gibson Championship Course in Terre Haute on Monday (Nov. 23). The two Butler runners were among 250 competitors in the men's championship.
Baker, a two-time cross country All-American, wound up placing 78th at the national meet, crossing the finish line in 30:42.7. That time was about 28 seconds slower than his finishing time a year ago, when he placed 33rd.
Roeder, competing in his second consecutive national meet, came in 167th in 31:29.4. That was nearly a minute faster than he ran a year ago as a sophomore, when he placed 190th at the NCAA Championship.
Both runners earned bids to the national meet as individuals, after finishing in the "Top 10" at the Great Lakes Regional Meet. Their performance at the NCAA Championship ended a season that saw the Bulldogs capture a 12th consecutive Horizon League Championship. Baker captured a third straight Horizon League individual championship and joined Roeder as a first team All-Horizon League performer.
