BUTLER BULLDOGS (7-29 overall, 3-12 HL)

  • Senior Jeff Sinkiewicz handcuffed SIU-Edwardsville through eight innings on Thursday, allowing just one run on four hits while striking out four before the Cougars plated six runs in the top of the ninth to claim a 7-1 win.

  • Senior Alex Montagano paced the Bulldogs at the plate over the weekend, hitting .538 (7-for-13). Six of his hits came during Butler's Saturday doubleheader at Cleveland State, with three in each contest.

  • Junior Jamie Feldheiser picked up Butler's lone win in relief at Cleveland State. With the exception of a lead-off home run, the right-hander worked a perfect 2.2 innings, striking out one and walking none.

  • Freshman Mike Hernandez boasts a team-high 40 strikeouts while allowing just eight walks in 42.1 innings. His 5-to-1 strikeout-to-walk ratio is tops on the team.

CLEVELAND STATE VIKINGS (12-20 overall, 5-7 HL)

  • Freshman Tyler Wynn smacked a one-out, walk-off double to give Cleveland State a 5-4 victory over Butler in the first game of Saturday's doubleheader. Senior Jon Foco scored the game-winning run from first.

  • Junior Ryan Franks hit .636 (7-for-11) in the three-game series against Butler, raising his batting average to a team-best .426.

  • Sophomore Travis Miller struck out three in 1.1 innings on Saturday against Butler. He also earned the win (1-0) in just his second collegiate appearance on the mound.

MILWAUKEE PANTHERS (15-19 overall, 8-4 HL)

  • Milwaukee batted .369 in five games last week. The Panthers averaged over eight runs and 13 hits per contest during the stretch.

  • Senior Andy Gerhartz set a school record with four stolen bases in Friday's series opener at Youngstown State. He scored twice in the 4-3 win, including a steal of home in the ninth with the winning run.

  • Seniors Shawn Wozniak and Johann Andes enter the week with 10-game hitting streaks. Junior Shaun Wegner's 11-game hitting streak is UWM's best this season.

  • Wednesday's game against St. Norbert will be televised on Time Warner Cable Sports 32 in Wisconsin.

UIC FLAMES (16-17 overall, 10-2 HL)

  • Senior Adam Worthington posted his seventh quality start (6.0 IP, 7 H, 5 R, 3 ER, 1 BB, 5 SO) -- in eight outings -- on Friday at Creighton. The first-year starter retired the final seven Bluejays he faced.

  • Senior Derrick Miramontes has allowed just one earned run over his last 11 appearances (19.1 IP).

  • Freshman Nathan Orf went 5-for-5 over the weekend at Creighton. He turned in a 4-for-4 performance on Sunday, which included his first collegiate home run.

  • Sophomores Jason Ganek and Andy Leonard are hitting .341 and .337, respectively, over UIC's last 21 games. Each player has driven in 16 runs during the stretch, helping the Flames to a 15-6 record.

  • Senior Brett Schaefer is hitting a team-best .381 (8-for-21) over his last six games.

VALPARAISO CRUSADERS (18-17 overall, 6-6 HL)

  • Valparaiso wrapped up a 10-game homestand over the weekend and is 10-3 at Emory G. Bauer Field this season.

  • Sophomore Damon McCormick hit .563 (9-for-16) with five runs last week.

  • Sophomore Jarad Miller earned two saves last week and now has nine on the year.

  • The Crusaders extended their winning streak to six before losing the opener to Wright State on Friday.

WRIGHT STATE RAIDERS (18-21 overall, 6-6 HL)

  • Wright State has won three of its four Horizon League series thus far in 2009, taking two of the three games in each. WSU holds the edge against Butler, Valparaiso and Youngstown State, while the Raiders were swept in their lone series with Milwaukee.

  • Junior Quentin Cate is averaging two hits per-game over his last five contests, while scoring at least one run and driving in at least one RBI in each tilt. He has walked twice and struck out only once in 22 plate appearances.

  • Freshman Michael Schum started his career with an 0-3 mark and 9.00 ERA, but the right-hander has yielded just one earned run over his last 19 outings (33.2 IP). He has allowed only four extra-base hits and struck out 28 during the recent stretch.

YOUNGSTOWN STATE PENGUINS (10-24 overall, 7-8 HL)

  • Youngstown State has recorded walk-off wins on back-to-back weekends against Cleveland State and Milwaukee. Junior Casey Holland was the hero against last weekend UWM with a two-run double in YSU's 8-7 win. Both of the game-winning hits came after infielders misplayed ground balls that should have ended the game with YSU losing.

  • Eight of Youngstown State's 15 Horizon League games have been decided by one run, and the Penguins are 3-5 in those affairs. All five of YSU's one-run losses have come when its opponent scored in its last at-bat.

  • Sophomore Phil Klein is 2-0 with a 3.44 ERA in seven Horizon League appearances this season. The reigning U.S. Army Horizon League Scholar Athlete of the Week has struck out 31 batters in 34 innings during the stretch.
