Blake Aquadro Youngstown State Baseball
Hometown: Memphis, Tenn.
Aquadro earned pitching honors after pitching Youngstown State’s first complete game shutout since 2004. The junior lefthander scattered eight hits over nine innings while striking out three. He pitched in the final game of YSU’s sweep over UIC, throwing 144 pitches in the second game of Sunday’s doubleheader.
Jeremy Banks Youngstown State Baseball
Hometown: Steubenville, Ohio
Banks batted .636 in Youngstown State’s sweep of UIC last weekend. The senior first baseman finished the three-game series 7-for-11 and also added three walks for a weekend on-base percentage of .714. Banks had three RBIs in YSU’s 11-3 win on Friday and added three more in the team’s 9-0 win on Sunday. Banks was 4-for-4 in final game of the series and collected the 200th hit of his career in the game.
Melissa Preish UIC Softball
Hometown: Thousand Oaks, Calif.
Playing in four of UIC’s five games, Preish hit .538, clubbing two home runs among her seven hits on the week. Preish’s first homer of the week came in the bottom of the seventh inning against Green Bay, tying the game at 4. UIC would go on to win 5-4 in 10 innings to fuel the sweep. The center fielder closed the week by going 4-for-4 during UIC’s 11-8 victory over Youngstown State. Clubbing her second homer of the week, Preish scored four runs in the win.
Brittany Gardner Loyola Softball
Hometown: Orland Park, Ill.
Starting four games for Loyola, Gardner went 3-1 last week, compiling a 1.30 ERA and 33 strikeouts in 27 innings of work. The lefthander opened the week by hurling a two-hit shutout in the Ramblers’ 1-0 win against Northwestern. One day later, she struck out six in a 3-1 victory at Purdue.
